“Geography then deals with the real world, the world of which one learns best through one’s boots soles or bare feet, or by means of trains, vessel, motor cars, or aero planes and only make shift by description, pictorial or otherwise, but it do not end with a study of the externals thus presented. It deals with the reason why the material world – regarded as a whole and made up related part – has come to be what it is. This involves relations natural sciences. It deals with the way in which this material world has influenced man, and in turn has been modified, altered and adapted by human action.” (Council of Geographic Association, 1919)
